What is Pick Your Passion?
Pick Your Passion is a project featuring a community of curious individuals focused on finding insights with data related to passion topics. The group meets quarterly to share their creations, exchange best practices, generate new ideas for their work, and individually augment their professional portfolios.
What do you have to do?
Nothing…if you choose. The quarterly meetings are welcome to anybody willing to learn and engage. You do not have to create something to engage, although creating an analysis tool is half the fun! We accept anybody willing to join us.
How do I sign up?
The PYP group has a Qualtrics survey created for sign ups. If you’d like to sign up for an upcoming session and be added to our invite list (no spam!), you may do so here.
How are topics chosen?
Topics are chosen by randomly selecting from the group of PYP participants without replacement. So, when we have selected everybody in our group, we start over. If you’d like to be added to our list of possible topic choosers for future events, please sign up here.
How was this created?
A group at my former employer, APEI, started doing the Makeover Monday challenge each week and invited others to join us. We quickly learned we could not all complete this challenge within the allotted timeframe. My friend, Matt Kline, came up with the idea to ask folks what they wanted to work toward. Matt is great with coming up with taglines and “Pick Your Passion” was born.
Are there tool restrictions?
No! Although this started as a Tableau group, I encourage everybody to use tools they are comfortable with or want to learn about. This is a judgment-free zone that encourages learning through exploration.

The PYP Tracker
Below, you can see a tracker I’ve developed to help track our contributions to this project. It is still a work in progress! It is important, however, to advertise the work of others that help make this community as supportive as it is. Please peruse their work!
